Causes of Backache

It is always recommended that one should sit in an upright position as it reduces strain on your back by holding the muscles, bones and other supporting elements in the spinal region in their inherent position.

Any change from normal spinal curve can stress or pull muscles. This can lead to increased muscle contraction, resulting in pain. Other medical conditions like osteoporosis, scoliosis, spinal stenosis have also become one of the core reasons of lower back pain among people these days.

Minute Sprains or strain of muscles or ligaments in the area that we usually ignore can also manifest in lower back pain. With the recent rise in cases of Benign or malignant tumors in and around the spinal area and incidences of fibromyalgia, can increase the chances of the lower back.

Common situations like a fall or blow to the back can strain or tear tissues around the spine, or even break a bone leading to back pain.

Lack of exercise or incorrect exercise can also lead to low back pain. Too much weight or overweight also is a cause of low back pain.

Ayurvedic Treatments

In Ayurveda, the treatment of most diseases and conditions is to balance the three doshas. In Ayurveda hospitals, both internal and external treatments are used to help patients get rid of a backache.

Abhyanga is a unique form of massage, originating in Ayurvedic medicine. ayurvedic abhyanga massage has tremendous benefits to the mind, body, skin and immune system. Abhyanga, which is an Ayurvedic Panchakarma way of treatment requires you to get an oil massage. It involves copious amounts of oil and a unique two or one-therapist sequence that relaxes and softens the tissues.

Abhyanga treatment for back pain includes Kati Vasti which is pain relieving oil-pooling treatment conducted for low back pain. Kati Vasti is a oil massage for back pain where a compartment is constructed over the low back area by using flour of black gram and the pain relieving medicated (herbal) oils are pooled in this compartment for a fixed duration of time.

A dailyAbhyanga practice restores the balance of the doshas and enhances well-being and longevity. Regular Abhyanga is especially grounding and relaxing for back pain.
